The story from the weigh-in at the Royal York Hotel is that Logan McGuinness’ fight has been scratched from the card. After promoters and match makers hustled to find McGuinness a short notice replacement a rematch was set with tough Pedro Navarrete of Mexico. McGuinness and Navarette engaged in a classic battle of wills in Montreal this past March 6th in which McGuinness came away with the victory by a close decision.
Navarette is enroute to Toronto from Mexico but once the notoriously tough Ontario Athletic Commissioner Ken Hayashi caught wind of the fighter travelling on fight day the bout was soon cancelled!
Orangeville’s Buzz Grant (135lbs) will now fight the 10 round Main Event against Ireland’s Michael Kelly (134.8lbs.) and Tyson Cave (123.8lbs) of Halifax will box another Irishmen Willie Casey (123.6lbs) in the 8 round co-feature. Organizers are also working on a 4 round exhibition bout between Tebor Brosch and Victor Lupo both of Mississauga.
