Stéphane Payette’s SP Promotions is bringing the fans Resurrection on February 25th, 2011 at the Pierre Charbonneau Center. The opening bell is at 7:30.

As we know, boxing is becoming more and more popular in the Province of Quebec. Two major promotional organisations Interbox and GYM made their mark in the recent years. Now there is a new promotion entering the scene, SP Promotions. This future major promotional team has been created by Stéphane Payette, a prosper ranch owner who lives by two passions, horses and of course boxing.

This new promoter will team up with Jean-Marc Emond, the Operation Director of SP Promotion. Many readers remember him since he was the marketing agent of Otis Grant, Arturo Gatti and many others. A lot of people might know him from UCC in his mixed martial arts days when he helped the progression of David L’Oiseau and none other than George St-Pierre.

The director of marketing, Claude Mc Kinnon is also part of the adventure. Mister Mc Kinnon promoted three boxing cards in Trois-Rivières, he was involved in the 2009, the 2010 Canadian Boxing Championships and he will be again in 2011! Read More

January 13, 2011 – Calgary, AB: Professional Boxing is set to return to Calgary, Alberta on Friday night when Teofista Boxing will present a dynamite double header featuring two of Canada’s fast rising prospects.
Calgary’s Steve Claggett (10-0-1, 7 KOs) tipped the scales at 139.5 pounds ahead of his headlining bout against unbeaten Mexican Jose Julio Mendoza (7-0, 3 KOs), who weighed in at a ripped 138.5 pounds. The 140 pound bout will be contested for the prestigious WBC light welterweight Youth Intercontinental Title in the headlining bout. Read More

2011 marks the ten year anniversary of boxing at Mississauga’s Hershey Centre. To commemorate this milestone Canadian Professional Boxing Council (CPBC) welterweight champion Tebor Brosch and North American Boxing Association (NABA) lightweight champion Logan Cotton McGuinness are teaming up to “KO Hunger.” On February 19th at the Hershey Centre, these two champions will quite literally be fighting for the Mississauga Food Bank.

To see McGuinness and Brosch defend their respective titles fans need only make a ten dollar donation to the Food Bank. Participating is simple. All fans have to do is visit Ticketmaster, click to purchase tickets and enter the promo code “hunger.” For ten dollars, plus the Ticketmaster service fee, fans get two tickets to the February 19th, United Promotions boxing card, while helping the Mississauga Food Bank feed the community’s hungry. Those wishing to bypass the Ticketmaster service charge are welcome to visit the Hershey Centre box office to make their donation and receive tickets. This program will run until January 31. TheBoxingExaminer’s Nova Scotia correspondent Dave Ghiz recently caught up with Robert Cave at Palooka’s Boxing Club in Halifax. Cave is the owner of Caveman Promotions and is promoting a card on January 29th featuring his son, “The Prince of Hali” Tyson Cave as he challenges unbeaten Nestor Bolum for the vacant WBC Intercontinental Super Bantamweight title.

TBE: So you guys have a big show coming up on the 29th of January and Tyson’s fighting for a WBC Continental title. Tell us a little bit about this show and the road to this title.

RC: Our road to the title, well we were in touch with the guy who gave us the C.A.M. titles. He then got me in touch with the guy from the WBC, Sam Macias. Sam and I got talking and I said, “look we don’t have to bring the WBC title fight here.”, but he said “Robert you’ll be the first guy to do it and you’ll be doing it.” So we agreed to have the fight here.
