One-on-One with Robert Cave of Caveman Promotions

TheBoxingExaminer’s Nova Scotia correspondent Dave Ghiz recently caught up with Robert Cave at Palooka’s Boxing Club in Halifax. Cave is the owner of Caveman Promotions and is promoting a card on January 29th featuring his son, “The Prince of Hali” Tyson Cave as he challenges unbeaten Nestor Bolum for the vacant WBC Intercontinental Super Bantamweight title.

The Boxing Examiner:  I’m here with Robert Cave from Caveman Promotions, Robert how are you?

 a

Robert Cave:  I’m doing great thanks.

 a

TBE:  So you guys have a big show coming up on the 29th of January and Tyson’s fighting for a WBC Continental title.  Tell us a little bit about this show and the road to this title.

 a

RC:  Our road to the title, well we were in touch with the guy who gave us the C.A.M. titles.  He then got me in touch with the guy from the WBC, Sam Macias.  Sam and I got talking and I said, “look we don’t have to bring the WBC title fight here.”, but he said “Robert you’ll be the first guy to do it and you’ll be doing it.”  So we agreed to have the fight here.

 a

TBE:  Now Robert this has been a long road for you and Caveman Promotions.  You’ve been around now here in Halifax for a couple of years trying make boxing happen in Halifax.  It’s been a struggle and a rocky road but you’ve kept it going.  From here on in with the title coming to Halifax where do you see Caveman Promotions go from here?

 a

RC:  Nowhere but up, nowhere but up.  Our venues will get stronger as well.  With the backing and help of Palooka’s, I mean it’s been a major help to us, I can only see greater things go come.

 a

TBE:  Now from what I hear it sounds like there is a good card lined up for this one.  Tell us a little about the card and the number of fights scheduled?

 a

RC:  We’ve got 4 pro fights, and 7 amateur fights lined up.  On the pro end we have Tyson Cave vs. Nestor Bolum for the WBC Continental title, there’s Richard Rettie vs. TBA in an 8 round fight in the semi final fight, there’s Stephen Cannell vs. a fighter out of Quebec in a 6 round fight, and there’s Craig Hillier vs. TBA in a 4 round opener.

 a

TBE:   You’ve been doing a lot of great things for boxing in Halifax.  Really you’re the only one that has been around trying to make this happen.  Boxing has been around forever in Halifax and we’ve had many great fighters come out of Halifax over the years, Ralph Hollett, Chris Clark, Raymond Downey, David Defiagbon, and now we have Tyson Cave.  So you know we want to take our hats off to you guys for making it happen.  So in closing is there anything you would like to say?

 a

RC:  NEW WBC CONTENTIAL TITLE HOLDER…………TYSOOOOOON DEWAYNE CAAAAAVE.  Also tickets for this even should be available in the next day or two and tables are already being booked as we speak.

 a

TBE:  Thanks Robert.
