(Thursday February 3, 2011) Tonight at the Molson Centre in Barrie, Ontario, Wild Card Promotions held the final press conference for tomorrow evenings “Super Brawl” card.  Rick Smiciklas of Wild Card Promotions has done everything possible to make this an exciting and crowd pleasing event and deserves a lot of credit.  In addition Rick gave everybody praise for helping him to put together the card.  Also in attendance was the legendary former Canadian Heavyweight champion George Chuvalo.

The Boxing Examiner.com was on hand to get quotes from each of the fighters in the main an co-main events.

First to take the microphone was Ray “Mount Kilimanjaro” Olubowale(8-4-1, 5KO’s) who has no love lost for his opponent from Edmonton, Tye “Big Sky” Fields (44-2, 40KO’s).  Fields questioned Olubowale’s courage and heart for having to pull out of their previously scheduled match last year due to a cut received during training.  This angered Olubowale who went on to state:

“I have taken him very seriously all along and was not taking a chance going into that fight with a cut so I pulled myself out of the fight.  I have never turned down a fight in my life!  All the talk of me being a chicken . . . it boils my blood and this is going to be my redemption!”

Tye Fields who is trained by former Canadian champion Ken Lakusta and former World champion Mike McCallum took the mic next and responded by saying:

“Id like to thank everyone here and I can really feel the energy and have trained very hard modelling my training like a Bernard Hopkins style training.  We are going to go in there and do what we have been training to do.”

Next up was the WIBA Super Featherweight world champion “Lethal” Lindsay Garbatt (6-3-1, 3KO’s) from Oshawa, who came to the press conference having already worked a full day at her other job.  Name any other world champion who does that!  Garbatt stated that:

“I respect Jelena and look up to her as a fighter and I am happy to fight her again because our last fight was such a good one and I don’t want to fight anybody who is a push over at home.  I’m so excited to finally be able to fight at home in front of all my fans.  My goal is to put on another war with Jelena and have an exciting fight for the fans.”

a

Edmonton’s Jelena Mrdjenovich (24-6-1, 12KO’s), who is a multi time world champion in different weight classes stated:

“I am looking forward to having another fight with Lindsay.  We fought a tough ten round fight last year and I am excited to have the chance for a rematch.  Most fights I’ve had that were close and tough the other opponent never wants to rematch with me so I am happy to get a rematch so quickly and on a great card here out east.”

The last comments came from the main event fighters.  First up was Louisiana State Heavyweight champion “Lethal” Johnnie White (22-3, 18KO’s), who had a very long journey with multiple flight delays and cancellations due to the large winter storm yesterday.

“I’m looking forward to being here and appreciate the opportunity to be here and I am going to do my thing and have fun tomorrow night.”

a

The Canadian Heavyweight champion Neven “No Surrender” Pajkic (15-0, 5KO’s) was the last to speak before he had to go out and drop the ceremonial face off puck in the Barrie Colts hockey game.

“I am looking forward to a good show tomorrow and fighting Johnnie White I am sure that he will bring his A game.  There is no hard feelings between us and I respect him as a fighter and I just pray to god that we all walk out out of the ring healthy and injury free tomorrow night and may the better man win.”
