Schmidt commented as follows: “South Korea, Trinidad and Tobago, Australia, Bermuda, and in the States, Florida, New York, Ohio, Missouri, New Mexico are all on Lisa’s fight resume so this is nothing out of the ordinary in terms of going into somebody else’s backyard, and what a backyard ! Arena Roberto Duran,” which seats 18,000 is one of the worlds great fight venues in a country that treats their boxers like rock stars. It is shaped like a great big tea- cup so both the fighters and the crowd get that feeling of being right on top of each other for that old time fight venue flavor. It is a virtual who’s who of great Latin legends that have fought in these grounds; Duran of course, Ernesto Marcel, Maravilla Pinder, Peppermint Frazer, Pedroza, Arguello, Bazooka Gomez, Kid Pambele’ Cervantes and of course Esteban De jesus amongst others.” Read More

Victory Promotions has arranged another great card of boxing for March 19, 2011, in Moncton, New Brunswick. Thus far, the event will be headlined by a contest between Jesse Francis of Moncton, NB, and Travis Connors of Doaktown, NB, for the newly founded Canadian Professional Boxing Council (CPBC) Atlantic Canadian light-heavyweight championship. This contest is scheduled for six rounds. Another possible main event, however, is also in the works. Mike Doiron of Victory Promotions has informed TBE that he is in negotiations with Canadian Boxing Federation (CBF), Canada-America-Mexico (CAM), and WBC Continental Americas super bantamweight champion Tyson ‘Prince of Hali’ Cave, regarding a contest for March 19 against an opponent to be announced at a later date. According to Victory Promotions, “Having a fighter like Tyson on the card only further goes to show what we’re working towards. It has been both a pleasure and an honor to be working with Tyson and his father.”
a
Victory Promotions has also announced that the March show will mark the return of women’s boxing in New Brunswick – after a twenty year absence – with four time Canadian amateur champion Jani Babineau of Richibucto, NB, taking on 2010 Ontario Boxing Association Golden Gloves Champion Amanda Beaudin of Hamilton, Ontario. Both are tremendous talents and will no doubt challenge for CPBC titles down the road. Read More
