Schmidt commented as follows: “South Korea, Trinidad and Tobago, Australia, Bermuda, and in the States, Florida, New York, Ohio, Missouri, New Mexico are all on Lisa’s fight resume so this is nothing out of the ordinary in terms of going into somebody else’s backyard, and what a backyard ! Arena Roberto Duran,” which seats 18,000 is one of the worlds great fight venues in a country that treats their boxers like rock stars. It is shaped like a great big tea- cup so both the fighters and the crowd get that feeling of being right on top of each other for that old time fight venue flavor. It is a virtual who’s who of great Latin legends that have fought in these grounds; Duran of course, Ernesto Marcel, Maravilla Pinder, Peppermint Frazer, Pedroza, Arguello, Bazooka Gomez, Kid Pambele’ Cervantes and of course Esteban De jesus amongst others.”
a
Schmidt further stated: “We took great inspiration from our meeting and encouragement from all time great Champion Roberto Duran when we met him in Nicaragua a few months ago and for team Brown to turn around and to be able to go down to this venue with a great Promoter,Rogelio Espino, putting on the show…well lets just say we are more than a little amped up for this. The past two years Promoter Espino has put on 15 five star shows. Having said all that we understand what we are up against here. Lisa might want to borrow Micky Ward’s Whitesnake entrance “Here I go Again on my own….” We certainly know and appreciate Champion Duran and the people of Panama will be cheering for our opponent and of course that is the way it should be-great country –great fight fans. This fighter from Panama, “La Fiera” Martinez is something special. She started her pro career at age 16, is only 20, and already has a 12-4 resume. She won five of her last six fights including four straight power knockouts against fighters with a combined record of 46-5-1 and a win just this week by knockout. We have seen her in action and she is going to force the fight. She is a pressure fighter so Lisa will not have to go looking for her. The WBA has its roots dating all the way back to Jack Dempsey and then some so Lisa understands its importance and she is already in shape and ready to go!”
a
The number one Flyweight in the world, WBA Champion Luis Conception of Panama one of the most exciting knockout specialists and fighters in the world today will be defending his WBA title in the main event. “Believe me, this is a young exciting Champion who will be on everyone’s pound for pound list shortly and probably should be now. His last fight demonstrated his explosiveness and as a finishing touch, a back flip after the fight off the top strand- how is that for closing the show!” Schmidt added.
