The Boxing Examiner.com recently had the opportunity to sit down at Clancy’s boxing gym in Mississauga, Ontario with 2 time IBF Junior Featherweight world champion Steve “The Canadian Kid” Molitor as he finishes the final preparations for his training camp for his big upcoming title defence against mandatory challenger Takalani Ndlovu in South Africa.  Molitor has already defeat Ndlovu twice before and once by knockout.

The Boxing Examiner.com:  I am here with the IBF Junior Featherweight World Champion Steve “The Canadian Kid” Molitor.  Steve how has training camp been so far?

Steve Molitor:  This has probably been the most complete training camp that I have had thus far with the addition of Mark Erwin as camp supervisor and Courtney Shand .  Everything has really fallen into place and I have had to do less of the technical stuff and focus completely on training.

TBE:  The same Courtney Shand that worked with Lennox Lewis throughout his career?

Molitor:  Yes, Courtney worked with Lennox Lewis throughout his professional career and in some of the Klitschko camps as well. Read More

A SUPER Super Bantamweight Month Ahead

In the next month five of the top rated Female Super-Bantamweight fighters in the world will be matching up against each other with the sixth, champion Ana Maria Torres, moving up in weight to join the super-batamweight party. On March 31 undefeated Las Vegas phenom Melinda Cooper goes up against Ada Velez in Costa Rica for the IBF title. On April 2 Canada’s very own Lisa “Bad News” Brown defends her WBA title against up and coming red hot Panamanian Chantall Martinez, in Panama, and then on April 16 Mexican superstar Champion Ana Maria Torres moves up in weight to fight Jackie Nava for the vacant WBC title in Mexico. When these fights conclude there may be no better time for a major promoter to pick up a female round robin between the victors in a scenario where we have active, top ranked champions ready to take on the challenge and ready to fight worldwide. A cursory review of the various ratings bodies has all of these women in the top end and obviously they are all stepping up this next month to take on the challenge. For the sake of women’s boxing the time could not be better and two thumbs up to all of these fighters for taking up top notch challenges.
