The Boxing Examiner.com recently had the opportunity to interview Canadian national amateur champion Colin McFadden at Clancy’s boxing gym about his pro debuting taking place this weekend, March 19th in Montreal on the Bute/Magee undercard.

The Boxing Examiner.com:  I am here with Colin (Fish) McFadden, a former Canadian National amateur champion.  How many amateur fights did you have Colin?

Colin McFadden: I had 76 fights.

TBE:  Only 76?

CM:  Yes, only 76 fights as an amateur.

TBE:  How many times did you go to nationals?

CM:  I went 5 times and won 4 times but I only went to nationals once as a senior and I won.

TBE:  How old are you?

CM:  I am 20.

TBE:  Wow only 20 years old and what division are you fighting in?

CM:  175 pounds so I am Light Heavyweight.

TBE:  You are making your professional debut this weekend, March 19th in Montreal what are your thoughts on that?

CM:  I am excited and focused on showing everyone the talent that I have and to show that I have the skills to be a professional fighter.

TBE:  You are not just your average amateur fighter turning pro but you have a proven world class team behind you as well as you have recently signed with Cameron Dunkin and Top Rank Promotions.  That’s a huge one, two punch right there plus you have a world championship level trainer in Chris Johnson as well.  Will Chris be with you in Montreal this weekend?

CM:  No which is kind of a set back but I am a professional and will do what I am prepared to do and what I always do and Otis Grant will be in my corner in Montreal.

TBE:  Do you know who you will be fighting this weekend?

CM:  I just found out, I just got the text from Cameron, that I will be fighting Mark Buccanan of British Columbia and he is 0-0-1.

TBE:  Do you know anything about Buccanan?

CM:  Yes actually he is an old guy, 43 years old.

TBE:  Do you know if he is orthodox or southpaw?

CM:  No but I will talk to Cameron about that however I am used to that sort of thing from international competition so I am ready for it.

TBE:  What are your short term goals from 2011?

CM:  My short term goal is to build up some wins.

TBE:  Do you want to box locally, go after a Canadian title or are you planning to fight in the U.S.?

CM:  Yes definitely I will be fighting a lot in the U.S. however we do want to fight locally as well and I want to build up a fan base around here too.  Yes maybe fight for a Canadian title but maybe just jump to a NABA title before a Canadian title maybe once I reach 10 wins.

TBE:  Thank you for taking the time to talk to The Boxing Examiner.com and good luck on Saturday night.

CM:  Thank you, I appreciate it.
