LONDON (October 12, 2011) – A bitter, ongoing feud for the past year promises to finally erupt November 12 when a pair of 16-0 heavyweights, massive Tyson Fury and menacing Neven “No Surrender” Pajkic, put their perfect records on the line, as well as their immense pride, in a 12-round take-no-prisoners title fight at EventCity, Trafford Park (next to Trafford Centre) in Manchester, England. It will mark Fury’s first pro fight in his birthplace of Manchester.

Legendary Canadian boxing trainer Hank Boone of Boone’s Boxing Club in Niagara Falls, Ontario, has passed away. All of us at TheBoxingExaminer.com would like to take this opportunity to extend our condolences to the Boone family. Hank was a great mentor, trainer and friend to many Canadian boxers and will be deeply missed by the nation’s boxing community.

In this week’s edition of “What Boxing Means to Me” Canadian Boxiana heads back to the Western Provinces, to the burgeoning fight town of Calgary, Alberta. If you take Crowchild Trail north west from the Trans Canada, you’ll come to Silver Springs Blvd and Teofista Boxing. Head inside and you’ll likely find prospect Steve “The Dragon” Claggett (11-1-1) honing his skills. Canadian Boxiana recently caught up with Mr. Claggett to learn more about his personal relationship with boxing and his thoughts on the sport’s social significance.
Claggett turned professional in 2008, sprinting to the top of the Canadian light welterweight division and winning the WBC Youth Intercontinental title in the process. When Steve was thirteen he started boxing at Calgary’s Fitness NW. “My trainer Eric De Guzman taught a small group of us,” explained Claggett. “All we had was one heavy bag and a corner to ourselves, out of the way of the gym members.” It wasn’t long, however, before Steve and Eric were off to a new facility. “A year later Eric opened up Teofista Boxing Gym, which has been, and always will be, my home gym.” Read More
