(November 12, 2011) – Last night Mikael Zewski put in a solid performance at Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, stopping Gundrick King (16-6, 11 KO’s) at 2:43 of the fifth round. Zewski started the first round measuring distance with a probing left jab followed behind crisp right hands. In the second round Zewski started to mix in hard left hooks followed by more very effective straight rights. In round three Zewski started to pinpoint his shots even more and thru round four was starting to land harder lead right hands. In round five a series of hard shots to the head and body found King taking a knee. Shortly after King got up from taking the knee Zewski moved in quickly and pounded him along the ropes with hard head and body shots. The referee had no other option but to call the stoppage at 2:43 of the fifth round with King in no condition to continue. With the win Zewski moves to 12-0 (8 KO’s) and based on his performance tonight there is no reason to not believe that he can move up in competition.
Perhaps more importantly was the comment made by one of Top Ranks main guys, Lee Samuels, who was sitting in front of me at the media section. After Zewski’s victory Samuels went to the dressing room. Upon his return Samuels turned to me with a smile and stated that Zewski “was incredible.” It will be interesting to follow Mikael Zewski’s next few fights and the progression up the division ranks be it Jr Middleweight or Welterweight.
