Fury stops Pajkic to retain Commonwealth Heavyweight Title

Unbeaten British Commonwealth Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (17-0, 12 KO’s) regained his composure to stop previously unbeaten Canadian Heavyweight champion Neven Pajkic (16-1, 5 KO’s) in Manchester, England on Saturday evening. Leading up to the fight both Fury and Pajkic exchanged words of bad blood and Fury promised his fans that he would stop Pajkic or he would retire. After a slow round one, Pajkic exploded in the second round knocking Fury down with a big right hand which clearly had the unbeaten champion in trouble. Fury struggled with Pajkic’s style in the early going but turned the fight around in the third round with a big body shot that buckled Pajkic knees, moments later Fury had Pajkic down on the canvas for the first of two knockdowns. Pajkic hit the canvas again as Fury applied the pressure and at 2:44 of round three referee Phil Edwards called a halt to the bout when Fury had Pajkic against the ropes. Pajkic was wobbled but did dispute the stoppage immediately. During the official announcement the angered Pajkic walked over to the microphone to let the fans know he could continue. After the fight, Fury’s promoter stated that Fury will be back in action in the spring potentially on St. Patrick’s day at Madison Square Garden’s in NYC.
