“Unfinished Business” Selcuk Aydin vs Jo Jo Dan II

Posted by on November 24, 2011 at 20:37 pm

November 26th at Hayri Gür Spor Salonu in Trabzon, Turkey

On November 26th, 2011, WBC Silver welterweight champion Selcuk Aydin and Canada based Romanian Ionut “Jo Jo Dan” Ion will clash in a re-match which will be billed as “Unfinished Business” (in Turkish “Büyük Hesaplasma”). In their first fight in June 2010 Aydin dominated the early rounds knocking down his opponent in the first stanza while Jo Jo not only got up from the knockdown but came back strong and even seemed to get stronger the longer the fight lasted. In the end, Aydin won by split decision.

“Both fighters got something to prove. Both guys think that they still have to settle the score with the other guy. These are perfect conditions for a great fight”, says promoter Ahmet Oner.

“I know that I can knock out Jo Jo Dan”, states Aydin who is preparing in training camp in Stuttgart, Germany. “I showed before that I can beat him now I want to show that I can stop him. In our first fight he kept on running away and clinching. It didn’t seem that he wanted to fight. It rather looked like dancing than boxing. This time I will not let him get away. He will not hear the final bell.” Read More

Norm Peters versus Arron Corrigan: All Maritime Match-up a Highlight of Victory Promotions’ “Breaking Ground” Undercard

On Friday November 25 at Casino New Brunswick, Norm Peters (1-6-0) of New Brunswick and Arron Corrigan (0-2-0) of Prince Edward Island will clash in the light heavyweight division, on the undercard of Victory Promotions’ Boyd-Clavette main event. In an interview with The Boxing Examiner, Victory Promotions front man Mike Doiron said Peters-Corrigan will be “one heck of a fight, with neither fighter wanting to take another loss on their record. It will be Corrigan’s classic boxing skills versus the never say die attitude of Peters.” The promoter sees positives in each fighter’s past that may indicate an ‘edge’ going into the fight. “Corrigan definitely holds the edge in experience with his amateur background,” said Doiron. “That being said,” continued the promoter, “Peters has a decision victory over current Canadian champion Eric Roy (6-2-0). Both of these fighters will have everything to gain in this fight, as they try to get their careers back on track.” Indeed, both men are coming off disappointing outings last September. In his much anticipated rematch with Robbie Cameron (1-3-0), Peters lost via TKO2, while Corrigan lost to Brandon Brewer (debut), also via TKO2.  To say these men are hungry for victory is an understatement. Both want to be the next Maritime fighter to find success on the national scene. The road from regional favorite to national contender begins Friday night, as these Last Round Boxer teammates slug it out for Maritime bragging rights. Read More

Julius Bunda keeps Undefeated Streak Alive: Earns Draw in Dante Moore’s Backyard!

Julius ‘Caesar’ Bunda (4-1-2) continues to impress. On November 19, the Kitchener, Ontario, resident travelled to Campbell, Ohio, to take on undefeated, hometown favorite Dante Moore (6-0-1) in a four round middleweight contest. Bunda was coming off a sensational, ten round draw against Stuart McLellan (7-0-2) in Moncton, that saw the Kitchener lad almost stop his opponent in the final round for the CPBC middleweight title. Moore was also coming off a draw. Back in 2010, Moore fought to a six round, split draw, against Minnesota prospect Corey Rodriguez (4-1-1). Since then, Moore has been inactive, with zero ring appearances in 2011.

More often than not, a draw in an opponent’s home state or province actually indicates a win by the visitor. This certainly seems to be the case in Bunda-Moore.  Rumors that Bunda had Moore hurt – on more than one occasion – were confirmed by the Kitchener fighter. “To be honest it all happened so fast the specifics of the fight are kind of a blur to me,” Bunda told The Boxing Examiner. “I do remember I stunned him more than once. I’m almost certain that I had him stunned at least once in each round. I recall the majority of the damage was done by a right hand. On two occasions I knocked his mouth guard out of his mouth, or he had spit it out, hard to tell, but with custom mouth guards fitting so well it is really hard to get it knocked out by accident.” According to Bunda, Moore struggled to keep pace and fire back. “He was basically hanging on for dear life during most of the fight, either by clinching or backpedaling and trying to get away from me. I don’t think him or his team really expected what they got that night, especially since we took the fight on about five days’ notice.” Read More

After his recent victory over Richard Reittie in Calgary, undefeated light middle weight Janks Trotter (7-0-1 w/7 knockouts) told friends and associates he would like to fight Adam Trupish or  Undefeated Mikael Zewski (12-0-8 knockouts), next. He went on to add that he thinks Trupish is “ducking” him. According  to Trotter, Trupish needs to “stop backing up” and stand up like a man, if he can. . Trotter said the fight could happen in Calgary, Edmonton or Siberia ..time and place doesn’t matter. As for Zewski, Trotter thinks the youngster looks “fight ready” on a glossy promotional  poster…he didn’t stutter! When asked when he could  be ready for his next bout, Trotter replied…NOW!

Steve Claggett here with a follow up message to Team Coveney. Let’s get it on. I was told that they would take a fight against me, but now no word.

I agreed to as many rounds as they want at whatever weight they want.

I agreed to put my titles on the line at 140 and was told 147 so I said yes to that.

Coveney said winner takes all purse, I said yes.

They said Edmonton, I said sure no problem.

Now I know that there is a December 9th show in Edmonton being put on by his own promoters and I’ve heard that he has been training, so let’s do this, no excuses. December 9th in Edmonton. Its always nice to fight in your hometown and if he claims he will fight me, then what else does he want ? He picks rounds, weight, location, I put my titles on the line, what does he have to lose? Its a great offer. Unless he’s scared to fight, in which case he should just say no to the fight and I will move on to the next challenge. Read More
