On Nov. 25, 2011, in Moncton, New Brunswick, Stephan Boyd destroyed Paul Clavette to win the N.A.B.A Canadian Middleweight Title in another action packed card put together by Mike and Ulysse Doiron of Victory Boxing Promotions in association with Jensen Strauss Boxing Limitee and Casino New Brunswick. Top Canadian trainers Carlos Varela Sr and Carlos Varela Jr promised that their boxer, Boyd, would be new and improved, with amongst other things, Mexican style body punching for this fight. The first round dictated what happened in the fight as Boyd controlled the space of the fight at length hitting Clavette with hard pinpoint jabs and right hands mixed to the head and the body. As early as the second round Boyd hurt Clavette with shots to the body. In the third round Clavette was dropped twice by hard shots to the body and the fourth and fifth was more of the same. Clavette was being battered post to post in the fifth when the corner of Clavette rightfully threw in the towel at 1:55. At that point Clavette was in serious trouble and his corner tended to him while he sat on his stool for a few minutes after the fight. With the win Boyd, under new management with Jensen Strauss Boxing Limitee, puts himself in the thick of things in the Canadian Middleweight scene and for bigger fights ahead. After the fight New Champion Boyd thanked, amongst a number of people, everyone down at Cabbagetown Boxing gym for helping to get him into razor sharp condition for the fight.
UNDERCARD RESULTS: In the biggest upset of the night, and perhaps the crowd pleaser of the night along with the Boyd fight, debut Israel fighter, Danny Netzer of Tel Aviv won a third round TKO over 6-2 (3K.O) Canadian Super Middleweight Champion Eric Roy. The general feeling before the fight was that Roy would have too much experience, be too big, and hit too hard. Indeed in the first round this looked to be the way the fight would turn as Netzer took two solid right hand shots over his left guard that clearly shook him. Netzer changed his strategy in the second round and got in close landing very solid body shots to the left and right hand side that first had Roy taking a knee and then going down the second time by another solid body blow. More of the same took place in the third with Roy down again and stopped by TKO in the third. Netzer will be one to watch in the near future as he showed he has big power and a solid chin. The Aucoin brothers of Brantford, Ontario had a twin win night. Chris Aucoin put in a workman like performance in winning a six round 60-54, 58-56, 60-54 decision over Shediac’s own Marcel “Little Magic” Maillet and Dave Aucoin looked very sharp in stopping Jamie “TNT” Taylor at 2:50 of the fourth round. In other action Arron Corrigan outlasted Norm Peters to pick up a four round decision and Brandon Brewer pounded out a 39-37 (x3) decision over Darren Fletcher. In a disappointing turn of events Nathan Miller fought a no contest two round bout with former Elite MMA Champion Steven Rogers. Rodgers entered the ring looking in solid physical shape. Both fighters clashed heads in the second round and Rodgers went to the canvas as if he had been knocked out. He did stagger up but the Docter determined he could not continue as he was cut above the eye and the eye area itself had swollen shut ala Carmen Basilio style. Miller was also cut. Up to the point of the stoppage Miller was clearly using his boxing skills, feints and solid jab right hand combinations to rock Rodgers around the ring. Clearly Miller was dictating matters and looked the far better of the two. A rematch would be interesting. As well, Brandon “Bad Boy” Cook went to 4-0 (2KO) by stopping debut forty year old Jason Bernava of Moncton. Cook knocked the local fighter down three times in the first with the last knockdown leaving his opponent face first on the canvas out cold. Cook, who legendary boxing announcer Al Bernstein had nothing but compliments for in relation to his last bout in Ontario, will me making noise very soon in a packed Canadian Jr Middle or Middle division.

Congrats to Stephan Boyd. It was good to see him acknowledge his local gym and others. He is a class guy and deserves this title.
Congrats Boyd! I wanna see more shots of that smokin ring girl!!
What the heck is the NABA Canadian championship? Aren’t they some kind of North American (read US) organization? As far as I can see the Canadian midleweight title is still vacant until one of the top-ranked guys in the division wins it in a NCC sanctioned fight. This kid Boyd needs to fight one of the top contenders, and I don’t think Paul Clavette is one of them. Right now, Boyd can claim part of the Maritime championship, if that still exists…
