Put up or shut up time for Sebastian Gauthier

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario (December 15, 2011) — Two-time world super bantamweight champion Steve “The Canadian Kid” Molitor has picked out the perfect Christmas present for provincial rival Sebastian Gauthier, wrapped with a bow on top and even delivered it to Quebec City. Unfortunately, at least for now, the gift remains unopened.
Last month in Gauthier’s backyard, after Molitor (34-2, 12 KOs) won a 10-round split decision on the Lucian Bute-Glenn Johnson card at Pepsi Center in Quebec City, Team Gauthier loudly complained about an unfair outcome and requested an immediate rematch. Team Molitor has officially offered a rematch February 11 to Gauthier (21-3, 13 KOs) at Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, which is where Steve lives and trains.
“It was a fairly easy fight for me,” Molitor said, “other than for the massive cut over my eye that I got from a head-butt in the first round. The cut bled into my eye (left) the whole fight and it was difficult for me to see. I hurt him a few times but couldn’t stick to my plan because of all the blood in my eye. It riled me a little and I lost my train of thought. I’ve been boxing 23 years and knew that a cut above the eye wasn’t dangerous or reason to stop the fight. I was a little worried about that, though, when the doctor checked me right before the 10th round. Read More

Groupe Yvon Michel continues to lead the way in Canadian boxing, scheduling yet another excellent card for this Saturday, December 17, in Quebec City. Victor Lupo (19-1-2) of Toronto will finally get his shot at the WBC International welterweight crown when he faces Antonin Decarie (25-1-0) for the vacant title. Kevin Bizier (16-0-0) will also be slugging for laurels, fighting Lanardo Tyner (25-5-2) of Houston, Texas, for the vacant NABA welterweight title. Tyner lost to Bizier’s countryman ‘Gorgeous’ Andre Gorges (9-1-0) back in 2010 for the NABA’s USA title.

Flying somewhat under the radar on Saturday’s Quebec City punch-up are heavyweights Eric Martel Bahoeli (7-0-0) and Sylvera Louis (3-1-0). These big lads will come together in a six rounder, for Quebec bragging rights. This is a very important contest for Bahoeli, who will be looking to enter his April 25 CPBC heavyweight title showdown with Ray Olubowale (8-5-1) on a good note.

There is plenty of Canadian amateur action on the docket this weekend. In Ontario, fight cards are slated for Stockyard’s Boxing Club in Toronto on Friday, December 16; Kombat Arts Boxing Club in Mississauga on Saturday, December 17; King of the Ring Boxing Club in Brampton on Sunday, December 18; and, last but not least, Ukrainian Hall (Warriors Boxing) in London on Sunday, December 18. In Quebec we have two amateur shows to look forward to with Club de boxe de l’Est gloving up on Friday and Club de boxe oneXone holding matches on Saturday. Out west, a card is scheduled for the Blood Tribe Warriors Boxing Club, Saturday, in Lethbridge, Alberta. If you have any amateur news to pass along, please send it to gmross@theboxingexaminer.com!
