Canada has two female amateur World Champions, Ariane Fortin and Mary Spencer. However, with Only three weight divisions being represented in woman’s boxing at this years Olympic Games, both Ariane and Mary are forced to box one another to decide who will represent Canada at the Olympics in their respective weight class.
However, the one woman that nobody is talking about is Melinda Watpool, whom will be moving down from her traditional weight to attempt to be the spoiler of both Mary and Arianes hopes of representing Canada at the Olympics.
Melinda in recent months has had two fights with Mary Spencer, losing both of them via judges decision. However, boxing insiders have stated that the fights could have gone either way and if it were computer scoring, Melinda Watpool might very well have won at least one of two of the fights.
Should be an exciting Championship for all involved!
