Glen “The Road Warrior” Johnson Training in Toronto
Boxers at Grant Brothers gym in Toronto were honored to be in the presence of former IBF Light Heavyweight Champion of the World and 2004 fighter of the year, Mr. Glen “The Road Warrior” Johnson. Johnson’s fiancé lives just outside of Toronto and while in town needed a place to train.
RG Grant, the younger brother of Howard and Otis Grant comically explained how he received a phone call from Johnson’s fiancé asking about his gym. The conversation went a little like this:
Fiance: Hello
RG: How can I help you?
Fiance: My fiancé is a well known boxer and he needs a place to train
RG: OK…who is he?
Fiance: I don’t want to say just yet.
RG: Who is he?
FIance: He boxed Roy Jones Jr.
RG: So did my brother…
Fiance: No, no, my fiancé really boxed Roy Jones Jr
RG: My brother really boxed Roy Jones Jr. too, WHO IS HE?
Fiance: Who’s your brother?
RG: Otis Grant
Fiance: Oh…..Ok……Glen Johnson is in town
A couple days later, Glen Johnson took a walk around the gym and liked what he saw. In Glen’s own words, while here in Toronto, training at Grant Brothers is a great way for him to “keep the rust off and keep the weight down”.
Former Canadian Amateur Stand out, Steve Rolls, now 1-0 as a pro, who had his pro debut in Edmonton, April of last year walked into the gym and couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw Johnson in the gym. Steve got ready and asked Glen if he wanted to do some sparring. Johnson already had his jock and gloves on and jokingly said, “Well, I’m not here to socialize”!

Steve Rolls got in 5 good rounds of sparring with The Road Warrior and expressed what a great feeling it was to be in the ring with one of the best in the game. Recently, Steve Rolls had also been in training camps with Andy Lee at The Kronk gym in Detroit and Darren Barker when he boxed Sergio Martinez. Steve has been getting in some great sparring, but has had tremendous difficulty landing fights.
The good news for Rolls is that things are now turning around and looking good as he will be back in the ring February 24th, in Philadelphia after he signed a joint management deal with Tim Zaccardi from Buffalo and Jesse Carstairs from Nevada.
The joint management team has several upcoming dates for Steve to keep him busy, so building his pro career no longer seems to be an issue for Steve Rolls.
Also on hand at the gym was Canadian undefeated star, “The Italian Sensation” Phil Lo Greco, native of St-Leonard, Quebec, with a record of 22 wins 0 losses, with 12 KOs. Phil was unable to get any rounds in with Glen Johnson that day, but looks to be getting in the ring with him several times over the next little while along with Steve Rolls.
After suffering from a back injury that has kept, Lo Greco out of the ring since May of last year, he looks to go 23-0 when he next fights February 25th.
