Unbeaten Brazilian Middleweight contender Michael “The Brazilian Rocky” Oliveira (16-0 12KO’s) will face rugged battle tested Estonian veteran Sergei “The Baltic King” Melis (18-7 7KO’s) in an 8 round contest on Saturday night at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga. TheBoxingExaminer.com caught up with Oliveira as he landed in Toronto
TBE: Welcome to Canada, Have you ever been here before?
MO: No, it’s my first time.
TBE: How was your flight from Miami?
MO: It was good and went really quick.
TBE: Are you anxious to fight in front of the Canadian fans?
MO: Yes, I’m very anxious, I heard we have alot of people coming out to watch and it’s inspiring.
TBE: How important is it to you to make a good first impression?
MO: Very important! First impressions are the one’s that stick always.
TBE: What do you know about your opponent, Sergei Melis?
MO: He’s a strong, he’s gonna come forward. Not wanting to lose.
TBE: He seems to be a tough battle tested veteran?
MO: I’ve seen one or two tapes. I’ve trained really really well. Trained hard, almost as close as what you can call hell. In Miami it’s really really hot and I feel like my trainers are gonna help me get where I need to get.
TBE: What can the fans expect to see from you on Saturday night?
MO: A knockout!
TBE: Where did the nickname ‘The Brazilian Rocky” come from?
MO: I’m actually an old school fan, I like Frank Sinatra and stuff. People mistake it from the Rocky movie, it’s not from Rocky Balboa, it’s from Rocky Marciano. He’s one of my favorite fighters of all time.
