a

In the Main Event of the evening Canadian Heavyweight Champion Neven “No Surrender” Pajkic improved to 14-0, 5KO’s defeating Minnesota’s Raphael “The Silencer” Butler, now 35-9, 28KO’s by a hard fought ten round decision.  Judges Allan Davis and Kelly Zolnierczyk scored the fight 97-93 and Harry Davis had it scored 99-91 which was very lopsided considering the action.  The fight was definitely a lot closer than the judges had it scored.

 a

Pajkic came out aggressively in the opening round and was able to land good combinations to the head and body of Butler.  However about a minute in it looked as though Butler landed a short left hook that dropped Pajkic but it was ruled a slip.  Pajkic landed more of the punches however Butler landed the harder punches but not often enough. Results From Montreal!

a

In the main event of the season finale of ESPN2 Friday Night Fight series Hammering Hank Lundy, now 19-1-1, 10KO’s defeated Omri Lowther, who drops to 14-2, 10KO’s by a ten round unanimous decision at the Metropolis Club in Montreal.  Judges Jean Gauthier and Pasquale Procopio scored the fight 100-90 and Claude Paquette scored it 98-92.

 a

The fight was a very technical affair right from the start as both fighters were looking for the opportunity to counter.  However it was evident that Lundy was the faster, busier and more skilled boxer as the fight progressed.  Lowther was too hesitant in the bout looking to counter punch far too often and was unable to put his punches together or find a rhythm.  Lundy took advantage of this and lured Lowther in and mixed up his attack to the head and body.  Late in both rounds eight and nine Lundy caught Lowther with some heavy combinations that staggered him.  Lowther tried to put more pressure on Lundy in the tenth round but it was too little too late. Pascal Gets Technical Decison Over Dawson
a

Reigning WBC Light Heavyweight champion Jean Pascal, 26-1, 16KO’s retained his title tonight at the Bell Centre in Montreal by winning an 11th round technical decision over “Bad” Chad Dawson 29-1, 17KO’s for the vacant Ring Magazine championship.  The fight was stopped in the 11th round when Dawson suffered a severe cut over his right eye due to an accidental clash of heads.  Jack Woodburn scored the fight 108-101 and Gerald Ritter & John Kean scored it 106-103.  With the win Pascal also claimed Dawson’s IBO Light Heavyweight championship.  Dawson and Pascal are universally recognized as the number one and two Light Heavyweights in the world.

 a

Pascal started the fight very aggressively landing hard jabs and good right hands to the body which kept Dawson backing up and off balance throughout most of the round.  In the third round Pascal was able to split Dawson’s guard with hard right hands.  The southpaw Dawson was landing his jab well and keeping pace with Pascal however it was Pascal who was landing the visibly harder punches.

 a

In the fourth round Dawson chased Pascal around the ring and used his jab effectively and working good combinations to the head and body of Pascal.  However Pascal came on strong near the end of the round pinning Dawson on the ropes with a hard flurry of left hooks to the body and flush right hands to the face.  Dawson came out in the same aggressive fashion in the fifth round moving Pascal back and started to up his punch output.  Pascal was able to fend off most of the onslaught with his excellent lateral movement and defence. Alcine Stopped in First!

Posted by Rick McLean on July 17, 2010 at 21:10 pm

a

Tonight at Rancho Mirage, California in a WBC elimination fight Alfredo Angulo stopped Montreal based Joachim Alcine at 2:59 of the first round.  Both fighters came out aggressively trying to establish their jabs and body attacks.  Mid way through the round Alcine tied up Angulo’s left arm however “El Perro” used his free right hand to pound away at the side of Alcine’s head which hurt him badly.  Angulo followed up the attack forcing hard right hands through Alcine’s defence.  A hurt Alcine was pressured back to the ropes where Angulo landed a hard left hook followed up by two hard right hands that left Alcine defenceless forcing referee Dr. Lou Moret to halt the bout at the 2:59 mark of the opening round.  With the loss Alcine drops to 32-2, 19KO’s.

Brosch Captures Canadian Welterweight Title

a

a

a

In the main event of the evening Mississauga’s “Mighty” Tebor Brosch (6-3-4, 2KO’s) won the vacant Canadian Professional Boxing Council Welterweight championship by split decision over Hamilton’s Justin “The Matrix” Fountain (6-3-3, 2KO’s) by scores of 68-66 & 67-66 Brosch and 68-65 for Fountain.  The fight was stopped by the doctor at the end of the seventh round due to a large cut over Fountain’s right eye caused by an accidental clash of heads.

a

a

a

The fight was a seesaw battle with both fighters visibly showing the effects of the hard combinations they traded.  Fountain entered the ring with a small bruise under his left eye and the left eye was eventually cut by a Brosch punch in the third round however it did not cause him any problems.  However in the same round Brosch sustained a large scrap under his right eye.  By the fourth round the fight resembled more of a street fight as both fighters held and punched away on each other in the clinch. On Wednesday June 30, 2010 at Casino Rama in Rama, Ontario Neven “No Surrender” Pajkic (13-0, 5KO’s) retained his Canadian Heavyweight title in convincing fashion in the rematch over former champion Greg “The Steele Pole” Kielsa (11-2, 5KO’s) by a 100-90, 99-91 & 99-91 unanimous decision.  Both men had a great deal of supporters wearing their respected country of origin’s attire that one would typically see worn at the world cup of soccer.  There were many moments early in the fight that it would seem impossible that both men could withstand the punishment of punches and the pace that is seldom seen in heavyweight boxing.

a

a

Neven continuously came forward attempting to land big shots all the way through the fight.  Greg on the other hand seemed beaten before they had even reached the second half of the fight.  Both men showed toughness and durability but the deciding factor was who wanted it more and Neven most certainly proved that by winning almost every round in the fight.
