Mandy Bujold Wins 2010 National Title!

22 yr old Kitchener native Mandy Bujold easily defeated former National Team member Jacqui Parks of Burlington in the 51 kgs Elite Womens Final on points 11-3.  Bujold, who trains with the Waterloo Regional Boxing Academy won the Gold Medal and her 5th National Title.  The National Elite Boxing Championships were held this past week in Saint Hyacinthe, Quebec.

The 51 kgs category has been selected as one of the three Olympic divisions for the female boxing debut at the 2012 Olympic in England.  This selection has made the division a very tough category and why Parks abandoned her 4 National titles at the 48 kg category and moved to the higher weight category.

Bujold earned a bye in the quarter-finals which saw her match up against Ontario Provincial Champion Linda Dimitri-Jones of Ottawa in the semi’s finals.  Bujold easily defeated the Ontario Champion stopping her in the fourth round. Bujold was ahead on points 38-3 at the time of the stoppage.

The Gold medal solidifies Bujold spot on the National Team and will provide her an opportunity to compete at the Pan American Continental Championships to be held in Venezuela in August and the World Championships in September in Barbados.
