Kielsa and Montiy Ruled a No Contest!

The final undercard bout of the evening featured Canadian Heavyweight champion Greg Kielsa (10-0, 5 KO’s) of Brampton who took on Kevin Montiy (17-6-1, 13 KO’s) of Michigan.

Both fighters started cautiously throwing one punch at a time with neither landing any significant combinations during the opening round.

A clash of heads opened a cut over Montiy’s left eye half way through the second round forcing the bout to a halt on advice of the ring doctor at 1:51.   The bout was ruled a no contest.  Many felt the cut was not large or significant enough to warrant the early stoppage.

At the end bout former Canadian Heavyweight champion Ray Olubowale entered the ring openly challenging the man who took his title.  There was a very brief exchange of words between Kielsa and Olubowale before both men left the ring.

Fountain vs Abbiw

The next bout was a Light Welterweight contest between Frankie Abbiw (4-2, 1 KO) of London and Hamilton’s Justin Fountain (5-1-2, 2 KO’s).

Abbiw regained his energy during the minute break and came out in the second round buckling Fountain’s knees with a huge left hook to the chin but Justin was able to hold on and get his legs back.  Frankie continued the pressure for the rest of the round continually snapping Fountain’s head back.

In the final round Fountain was able to land the cleaner more effective punches and Abbiw did not have an answer.  After the four rounds were complete the judges scores the fight 40-36, 40-36, 39-37 awarding Justin Fountain the unanimous decision victory.

With the win Fountain improves to 6-1-2, 2 KO’s while Abbiw drops to 4-3, 1 KO’s.

Boyd Stops De Melo!

De Melo Out On His Feet

The opening bout of the evening was a scheduled four round Super Middleweight contest between Pedro De Melo (0-1) of Milton, Ontario and Stephan Boyd of Toronto (8-3-1, 3 KO’s).

In the opening round both fighters were cautious landing jabs and one punch at a time however neither fighter was able to put together a significant combination.

In the second round Boyd was able to land the better punches, connecting with solid uppercuts but De Melo was able to respond with a three punch combination that moved Boyd backwards.  In the second half of the round Boyd took over scoring with the occasional uppercut and big right hands.  De Melo had no answer for Boyd’s uppercut throughout the fight.

Boyd started off the third round with much of the same backing up De Melo with the straight rights to the head.  De Melo tried to get inside on Boyd’s however the Toronto fighter’s jab kept him at bay.

Boyd hurt De Melo early in the fourth round with another big right hand.  De Melo staggered back to the ropes trying to cover up but Boyd stayed on top of him continuing to land unanswered right hands until the referee waved the contest off at the 54 second mark.

With the TKO win Stephan Boyd moves to 9-3-1, 4 KO’s while De Melo suffers his first defeat as a pro.
