TBE: Ryan you have two successful pro fights thus far and Sammy has four. It is very unusual for two talented guys so early in their pro careers to be facing each other. Is this fight personal?
a
Ryan: Ya you could say that, even in the amateurs our clubs have had a rivalry and the last couple years it has been tense between us. I remember when before I turned pro talking to Chris Johnson and I told Chris that if you put me in the ring with Sam Vargas I’ll knock him out. So later they offered that fight to me as my first fight and we said yes but they came back with an excuse of no we want a six rounder and obviously in Ontario you’re not allowed to do a sixth rounder in your pro debut so that was a no go. However, I’ve been watching him and wanting to fight this guy for so long and I really can’t wait to get in the ring with him. Read More
TBE: This fight with Ryan Wagner has two young guys putting their undefeated records on the line so why take this fight and what motivates you for this fight?
a
Sam: Well there’s been a lot of trash talk for this fight and I heard that he told my coach Chris Johnson, while he was an amateur and I was a pro that he could beat me and that he could knock me out. So I took that seriously and ever since then there’s been a lot of trash talk between us to have this fight and now it’s actually happening so I’m really pumped and I’m training like an animal and come September 25th, I’m going to be a winner again. Undefeated Logan McGuinness (11- 0-1 5KO’s) and Buzz Grant (9-3 4KO’s) met at Boston Pizza in Orangeville, Ontario one month ahead of their scheduled 10 round bout for the vacant N.A.B.A. Lightweight Championship.
a
Tickets are available at Ticketmaster or by calling 872-5000
TBE: So Logan tell me how is training going so far and can you tell me a little bit about your training regiment?
a
Logan: Training is going great! I had just fought on July 10th and I originally thought Buzz and I were fighting on August 14th at the Bell Centre in Montréal but when that didn’t happen I went to light training for a week to give my mind a break because I didn’t want to burn out and since then we have been training hard and sparring three days a week Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays I work with my strength and conditioning coach Ryan Sinclair here in Orangeville. I’ve been running 10 to 15 km each day 6 days a week and have been sparring with a lot of guys who are movers because typically Buzz has been a mover in the past so we have been working a lot on cutting off the ring and I won’t have a problem the 25th. TBE: So Buzz how is training going so far for this fight?
a
Buzz: Everything is going well for this fight. We were supposed to fight August 14th, two weeks ago, we were training hard for that and we were ready and then about three weeks before the fight we got a call from Logan’s manager saying the fight has been postponed until September so we weaned off for a couple weeks with some light training and then got back into it hard so we had a long camp and training has been going really well with lots of good sparring and I feel great. In what started of as a very quiet promotion is quickly heating up! This Saturday, May 15th Andrew Singh Kooner (10-2 4KO’s) of Mississauga, Ontario will challenge Jose Silveira (10-2 4KO’s) of Mexico for the vacant NABA Bantamweight Title. With identical records there isn’t much separating the 2, only the fact that Silveira has fought 6 more rounds as a professional, 63 to Kooner’s 57.
a
What has already set the 2 apart is the trash talking. Kooner opts to do his talking in the ring while Silveira’s camp has already started outside of it. Silveira’s manager, Marco Rivera stated in a recent press release that Kooner, a Sikh Canadian, will not be able to compete with his fighter. “How can a Canadian Sikh even think that they can be on the same level playing field as us?” Rivera said. “Now if we were playing hockey or that other game cricket, then yes, but not boxing. Boxing is our (Mexico) national sport” Rivera went on to say that his fighter will knockout Kooner on Saturday night. Read More

TBE: How did you first become involved in boxing and how long have you been fighting?
a
DD: My pro debut was January 16, 2010 of this year. I was always involved in boxing. Just fooling around at the gym since 2000. I really got serious after Sheridan College in 2004, cause I knew all the time it took just to dedicate myself. But I really went hard in 2007.
a
TBE: So you dabbled in the amateurs from 2004 to 2007 and after that you really got serious.
Last night a capacity crowd at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, witnessed an action packed night of knock outs at United Boxing Promotions first card of 2010 entitled Undisputed. The Main Event of the night saw WBA Fedecentro Light Middleweight champion and Canadian Welterweight champion Victor Lupo (17-1-2, 9KO’s) earn an eight round 75-76, 77-75, 76-76 split draw with Mexico’s Ulises Jimenez (16-12, 12KO’s).
a
Lupo was the aggressor throughout the fight however in the first round he was caught by a right uppercut as he was leaning in and dropped to the canvass in a flash knockdown. Jimenez was an awkward fighter and his strategy throughout the fight consisted of circling the perimeter of the ring and only punching when he was forced to. In addition, Jimenez would attempt to lure Lupo into the right uppercut but was seldom successful. However, when Jimenez did throw punches he would land the harder more effective blows.Read More
