(Saturday February 18, 2012) – GYM promotions held the third episode of their Fast and the Furious series at the Bell Center in Montreal, Quebec and what a night it was for boxing fans who love knockouts. Light heavyweight contender Jean Pascal, Antonin Décarie, heavyweight fighter Eric Barak, former Montreal Canadiens tough guy George Laraque, and former Adonis Stevenson’s trainer Howard Grant were all in attendance with another 3000 enthusiastic boxing fans.
The main event featured the fearsome southpaw Adonis ‘’Superman’ Stevenson (16-1-0, 13 KO’s) of Longueuil, Quebec against former NABF super middleweight champion Jesus ’’El Martillo’’ Gonzales from Phoenix, Arizona for the IBF super middleweight title eliminator for the number two spot. Gonzales, another southpaw was named the most impressive boxer in the 2002 national amateur scene in the USA, earning three victories over Andre Berto, defeated Alfredo Angulo and the now WBC and WBA super middleweight champion and 2004 Olympic gold medalist Andre Ward. As a pro, Gonzales won a major victory over hard punching Francisco Sierra last July.
On the other side, Stevenson is no stranger to success either. In the last ten months Superman came back to the elite group of the division by knockout wins over Derek Edwards, Dion Savage, and most recently Librado Andrade conqueror Aaron Pryor Jr. Now trained by the legendary Emanuel Stewart, Stevenson was looking to impress. Both fighter came into the ring to honour the passing of Montreal Expos and baseball great Gary Carter. Gonzales was wearing a jersey of Carter and Stevenson wore an Expos cap and for the first time yellow trunks, colors of the famous Kronk gym of Detroit City.
The fight itself lasted 1:39 seconds of the first round, but no one was disappointed. Stevenson promised a knockout and he delivered. Superman destroyed Gonzalez with a single but lethal straight left to the chin. El Martillo laid several minutes on his back before the ringside doctor and his cornermen helped him get on his feet. After the fight, Stevenson called out IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute once again. He also dedicated his performance to the memory of Gary Carter.
Adonis Stevenson improves his record to 17 victories, only 1 defeat and is now ranked number two by the IBF.
Bridgewater, Nova Scotia’s Jason “Notorious” Naugler (18-16-1 11KO’s) was stopped in the 4th round by 25 year old Middleweight contender Fernando Guerrero (23-1 18KO’s) Saturday night at the Grand Oasis Resort in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico. The referee stopped the fight at 2:36 of the 4th round after Naugler took too many heavy blows. This fight marked the 34 year old Naugler’s 9th consecutive loss.

On Saturday February 11, 2012, United Promotions, Buxton Promotions and Hennessey Sports Canada held an action packed six fight card called “Young Gunz” in front of a capacity crowd of 4, 500 cheering fans at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ontario.
In the Main Event of the evening Samuel Vargas of Mississauga, Ontario won the vacant NCC Canadian Welterweight Championship in impressive fashion by devastatingly knocking out the reining Canadian Junior Welterweight champion Manolis Plaitis, now 17-2-1, 8KO’s at 2:49 of the opening round. With the victory Vargas remains undefeated at 9-0-1, 3KO’s.
Vargas was all over Plaitis right from the opening bell as Vargas’s size and strength was too much for him as he hammered away on his Quebec opponent to the head and body moving him backwards and on the defensive. Vargas hurt Plaitis with a left hook right hand near the end of the round and then followed him to the corner where he landed a crushing left hook, straight right hand that snapped Plaitis’s head back and sent his crashing to the canvas on his back barely conscious as the referee immediately called a halt to the bout at 2:49.
After the fight was over Ahmed Cheikho, the man who Vargas stopped in his last fight took the microphone and called Vargas over and stated that he wanted a rematch because he had broken his hand in the fight and that he wants 8oz gloves and not 10oz. Billy Martin, Vargas’s trainer took the microphone away from Cheiko and this outraged him and he had to be held back. Top rated cruiserweight contender Troy “The Boss” Ross remains next in line for a shot at the IBF Cruiserweight Title this spring with an 8 round unamious decision win over the durable Lukasz Rusicwcz today in Frankfurt, Germany. The official scores were 79-74, 80-72 and 80-72. The International Boxing Federation have ordered that Ross receive a Championship bout on or before May 11, 2012.
Shane “Shotgun” Andreesen of Qualicum Beach, British Columbia improved his professional record to 12-3 7KO’s with the upset unanimous decision win last night in Washington State. Andreesen outworked Las Vegas based Brazilian Raphael Zumbano Love now 31-5-1 24KO’s over 8 rounds at the Northern Quest Casino in Airway Heights.
On Friday, January 13, Desperados Night Club was packed to capacity for FanBase Promotion’s four fight evening of boxing dubbed “Time for Truth.” This was easily one of the most hyped shows in recent Calgarian boxing history, featuring Adam ‘A-Bomb’ Trupish (9-0-0) of Windsor, Ontario, via Edmonton, Alberta, putting his NABA light middleweight championship on the line against Janks Trotter (7-0-1) of Calgary, Alberta. There was some bad blood brewing prior to the fight, with Trupish stating he was hesitant to face Trotter because, “it wouldn’t be much of a fight,” assuring his fans that, if and when the fight happened, he would “gladly whoop his ass.” The NABA champ took some heat for his brash comments but, after last night, few can question their validity. TheBoxingExaminer.com
As Trupish and Trotter went through their pre-fight routines in their respective corners, they looked roughly equal in physical stature. Trupish came in the taller man by two inches at 5’11”, but looked to have an even more significant reach advantage than his height would suggest. Trotter was in trouble almost immediately, being promptly dropped to the canvas by the champion. The Calgarian staggered to his feat, clearly in serious trouble, but was permitted to continue by the referee. With his man hurt, Trupish moved in to finish, forcing Trotter to hold on as best he could. Eventually, the referee was forced to separate the two, leading the weary Trotter to stagger the length of the ring. Moments later, the fight was over. Trupish floored Trotter for a second time, forcing the referee to call a halt to the contest at 1:12 of the first round. With the win, Trupish moves to a perfect 10-0-0, putting him hot on the heels of some international prospects and/or champions in the division. Read More

(Saturday December 10, 2011) – GYM promotions held the second episode of “Fast and Furious 2011-2012” tonight at the Bell Center in Montreal, Québec, putting on eight thrilling fights. Light heavyweight contender Jean Pascal, IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute, Antonin Décarie and former Montreal Canadiens tough guy Georges Laraque were all in attendance for this card.
The main event featured knockout artist David Lemieux (25-1-0) of Laval, Québec, defending his WBC International middleweight championship against former WBA light middleweight champion Joachim ‘Ti-Joa’ Alcine (32-2-1), formerly of Laval, but now fighting out of California, USA. It was redemption time for both fighters, with the hungry young lion, Lemieux versus the methodical and more experienced former champion, Alcine. Both men were desperate for a victory to get their respective careers back on track. Last April, Lemieux lost a WBC eliminator bout at the hands of Marco Antonio Rubio (49-5-1). On the other side, Alcine suffered a devastating knockout defeat against Daniel Santos (31-3-1), followed by lack lustre performances against Eric Mitchell (22-5-1) and Christophe Canclaux (40-2-0). But it was in July 2010 that many thought Alcine’s career was over, when he lost by knockout to Alfredo Angulo (18-1-0). Before the fight, Lemieux was ranked number three by the WBC and was also the favourite to win the contest. In fact, many boxing experts said that the 35 year old Alcine would get knocked out by the devastating power of the young, twenty-two year old contender. Alcine would prove them wrong. Read More
On Friday December 9th 2011, at the Shaw Conference in Edmonton, Alberta KO Boxing Promotions in association with Independent Jewellers held an action packed event titled “Fire & Ice”. The main event of this card was the highly anticipated third match between Jelena Mrdjenovich, now 26-8-1, 13KO’s of Edmonton who was taking on Olivia Gerula, 13-13-2, 3KO’s from Winnipeg, for the vacant W.I.B.A. World Featherweight Title. Both of these women really wanted this rematch and even though Gerula took the fight on short notice she came into the fight in tremendous shape. In addition, both women are former world champions and both have earned a victory over the other. This was the fight to settle the score.
In the end it was Mrdjenovich who finished things with a brutal ninth round knockout of Gerula, much like their first encounter in 2004 that saw Gerula face down on the canvas for several minutes after a Mrdjenovich left hook. This will unquestionably be a strong candidate for knockout of the year. Read More
