MONTREAL - It’s not like being slugged by Bernard Hopkins, but it had to hurt.
Former world boxing champ Jean Pascal has turned over his Mercedes-Benz to a friend after losing a bet on the Super Bowl.
While he may be down, Pascal wants to point out he’s not out. The Montreal boxer plans to reclaim his vehicle soon.
“Alright everyone, before this gets too serious, the bet was the car but just for a month, but I’m keeping my word,” he said Monday on his Twitter page.
“That’ll teach me!”
Later Monday afternoon, Pascal also sent out a news release apologizing to anyone who was offended by the “friendly wager” with his buddy, stressing that he doesn’t condone gambling of any kind. Read More

MONTREAL (February 2, 2012) Super middleweight sensation Adonis “Superman” Stevenson, now being trained by Hall of Famer Emanuel Steward in Detroit, is prepared to successfully defend his International Boxing Federation (IBF) Inter-Continental belt February 18 against former NABF champion Jesus “El Martillo” Gonzales (27-1, 14 KOs) in the 12-round main event that is also an IBF voluntary eliminator for the No. 2 position.
But Stevenson, rated No. 7 by the World Boxing Association (WBA), as well as No. 15 by the World Boxing Council (WBC) and IBF, also has sights set on a mega-Montreal showdown against IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute.
Stevenson vs. Gonzalez headlines a Quebec star-studded “Fast & Furious” Boxing Series event, presented by Mise-O-Jeu and Videotron, at Bell Centre in Montreal.
Stevenson (16-1, 13 KOs), fighting out of Longueuil, Quebec, also is the reigning North American Boxing Association (NABA) and North American Boxing Organization (NABO) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) Inter-Continental super middleweight king. Read More

Undefeated welterweight prospect Samuel Vargas (8-0-1) of Mississauga, Ontario, gets another crack at national laurels on Saturday, Feberuary 11, when he takes on Manolis Plaitis (17-1-1) of Montreal, Quebec, at Mississauga’s Hersey Centre for the vacant National Championship Committee (NCC) welterweight title. The Vargas-Plaitis matchup represents the second national title appearance for each man. About a year ago, Vargas fought a slashing ten round draw with then Canadian Professional Boxing Council (CPBC) welterweight champion Tebor Brosch (6-3-4) for the vacant NABA Canada welterweight title. Plaitis fought for, and won, the NCC light welterweight title in a fight with Bakary Sako (7-5-3) in 2008. Read More

Froch Front Runner For IBF Title Shot!
By Jeff Emond Jeffrey
During a telephone conference earlier today, January 27, Interbox president Jean Bedard confirmed that IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (30-0-0) will fight in Quebec on April 14, but not on the Showtime network. Since Bute has another fight to be showcased on Showtime PPV, it’s improbable that Interbox will turn to PPV competitor HBO. Nevertheless, Bedard confirmed that Bute will defend his title on Quebec soil, in either Montreal or Quebec City.
Lucian Bute’s trainer Stéphane Larouche stated that Bute will likely defend his belt against former two time WBC super middleweight champion Carl “The Cobra” Froch (28-2-0). It seems Interbox will do everything in their power to make the Bute-Froch fight happen for the Canadian boxing fans. Furthermore, Carl Froch wants to battle Bute and the feeling seems mutual. Unfortunately, Andre Ward (25-0-0) – the winner of the Super Six Tournament – is out of the picture due to an injured right hand. With Ward sidelined, Showtime wanted Bute to fight Andre Dirrell (20-1-0), but Bedard felt the matchup would lack appeal in Canada, where Dirrell is virtually unknown. Read More

Claggett Warns Wagner To Bring His A Game
Press Release Sent By Stefan Matusewycz
No chairs or punches were thrown at the “Time For Truth” press conference on Wednesday; but, it doesn’t take a palm reader to realize that NABA Light Middle Weight Champion Adam “A-Bomb” Trupish and Challenger Janks Trotter will never double date or break bread together at a church social. On Friday, January 13 their obvious mutual contempt for each other will be settled in the ring at Desperado’s Night Club in Calgary, Alberta.
This promised war, in the ring, has more sub plots than a John Grisham thriller. Trupish is the pedigreed Fighter with two trips to the Olympics and a boxing resume that suggests royal status. He was genuinely offended when Trotter asked if the two undefeated pugilists could meet in the ring to decide who was the best light middleweight in Alberta Province and Canada. Adam and his loyal subjects aired their grievance over the internet airways. How dare Janks Trotter, a mere boxing peasant, challenge the King of Canadian Boxing? He took his plea to the internet where he belittled Trotter by calling him his expletive. The war of words escalated until the Champion and King was forced to fight or retreat to his adopted throne in Edmonton, Alberta, a Western Province in Canada. Read More

The expected battle between Canadian national gold medal champion and the silver medalist in the 75 kg will be taking place within 48 hours.
Mary Spencer of Ontario and Ariane Fortin of Quebec, each won their bouts today and the right to contest for the amateur national championship of Canada, which will take place at the convention center in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
If Spencer wins the national championship for the ninth time, she will also pocket a ticket to the world championships in China where she can gain the right to go to the Olympics in London.
On Friday the 13th, at 7:00 PM, Spencer and Fortin, considered by many the two best boxers in the world in their category, will face each other. These two virtuousos of the sport went from friends to rivals in the ring, but that’s boxing.
Prior to August 2009, when it was announced that women could box in the Olympics, Spencer and Fortin had a close friendship. Now their friendship has turned into respect and they admire each other, but their closeness is reduced when they climb into the ring where each wants to be chosen the one and only. Read More
