Sauerland Events Confirms Ross To Get Title Opportunity Against Hernandez

Hernandez wins dramatic rematch against Cunningham – Ross Up Next!

Yoan Pablo Hernandez (26-1, 13 KOs) defended his IBF Cruiserweight Title with a spectacular points victory over Steve Cunningham (24-4, 12 KOs) in Frankfurt on Saturday night. The pattern was similar to their first meeting last October, with Cunningham fighting back after two knock-downs in the fourth round. After an exciting fight, Hernandez was ahead 116-110, 116-110 and 115-111 on the scorecards. “This is a big victory for me,” Hernandez said. “But I take my hat off to Steve, he is a great, great fighter and once again proved his world class. But our strategy worked today and I am very happy about the outcome.”

Hernandez got off to the better start, landing good shots in the first rounds, but Cunningham also connected with fast punches. In the fourth, a big left hook sent Cunningham down. He got back up – only to find himself on the floor straight away. He used all his experience and class to survive the round, which left him with a big cut above his right eye. “Steve´s courage was impressive,” coach Naazim Richardson praised. “Had I got hit by those shots, I would still be down. Not many fighters can recover from something like that. But Steve got back up, twice, and fought on. His courage is incredible.” Read More

Ibrahim “Firearm” Returns to the Mississauga Hershey Centre on February 11, 2012

Posted by on February 4, 2012 at 14:18 pm

Ibrahim “Firearm” Kamal (6-0, 5 KO’s) looks forward to returning to the Mississauga Hershey Centre next Saturday night to fight TOMMI SCHMIDT (6-4, 3 KO’s) of Denmark in a scheduled 8 round bout.

When asked about his next opponent, Kamal said, “I don’t know a lot about this guy other than the fact that he is tall for a lightweight, and in his last fight he went 12 rounds with a guy that was 27-2, trained by Emmanuel Steward”.

According to Kamal, the fact that his opponent survived the distance in his last fight cannot be allowed to continue:

“I have not fought since last September in Mexico and I have been training very hard for this fight, with the help of my trainer/manager, Rey Morales. I have had excellent sparring with Stephan Boyd, who is tall like my opponent. I am ready and I want to stop this guy and make another statement in front of my Toronto area fans.” Read More

Marcel “Little Magic” Maillet (0-2-0) of Moncton’s Last Round Boxer won his four round, middleweight bout over Ryan Burgess (debut) of Truro, Nova Scotia, at the Halifax Forum Multi-Purpose Centre Saturday night via a unanimous decision. The event was hosted by Caveman Promotions. Maillet fought relentlessly against a game opponent, landing frequently throughout the fight. Burgess was in trouble on several occasions – in three of the four rounds – in what was likely the fight of the night. The judges scored the fight 40-36, 40-36, 39-37.

“Stormin” Norman Peters (1-7-0) of Last Round Boxer lost by second round knockout to Stephane Landry (1-1-0) of Quebec via Halifax, in a cruiserweight match-up. Peters took the early lead, out boxing the rugged Landry in the first round with an effective left jab and some strong combinations, which dazed Landry. Peters took command again early in round two and it appeared Landry was headed for defeat. Several punches found their mark on the back of Peters head in close quarters before he took a tremendous right cross and was unable to beat the count. Read More
