Marcel “Little Magic” Maillet Wins Big in Halifax, NS

Posted by on January 24, 2012 at 21:22 pm

Marcel “Little Magic” Maillet (0-2-0) of Moncton’s Last Round Boxer won his four round, middleweight bout over Ryan Burgess (debut) of Truro, Nova Scotia, at the Halifax Forum Multi-Purpose Centre Saturday night via a unanimous decision. The event was hosted by Caveman Promotions. Maillet fought relentlessly against a game opponent, landing frequently throughout the fight. Burgess was in trouble on several occasions – in three of the four rounds – in what was likely the fight of the night. The judges scored the fight 40-36, 40-36, 39-37.

“Stormin” Norman Peters (1-7-0) of Last Round Boxer lost by second round knockout to Stephane Landry (1-1-0) of Quebec via Halifax, in a cruiserweight match-up. Peters took the early lead, out boxing the rugged Landry in the first round with an effective left jab and some strong combinations, which dazed Landry. Peters took command again early in round two and it appeared Landry was headed for defeat. Several punches found their mark on the back of Peters head in close quarters before he took a tremendous right cross and was unable to beat the count. Read More

TheBoxingExaminer.com’s own Halifax correspondant Dave Ghiz recently had an opportunity to talk with Craig Hillier who is set to make his debut in the punch-for-pay ranks!  Hillier is currently in Lowell, Mass. training along side his stablemate Tyson Cave with Micky Ward as they prepare for their fights on January 29th at Palooka’s Boxing Club in Halifax.

The Boxing Examiner:  I’m here with Craig Hillier from Palooka’s Boxing Club.  Craig tell us a little bit about yourself, where your from, your experience, your amateur history and really anything you’d like to tell us about yourself.

a

Craig Hillier:  I was born here in Halifax.  I’ve been boxing now for about 12 years on and off.  I moved away for a year for school where I continued my training.  I’m a teacher now but I’m also juggling a few other jobs right now but my newest venture is pro boxing.

a

TBE: So you’ve had an extensive amateur career Craig and we’ve all followed your amateur days here in Halifax.  You’ve boxed locally, provincially and even on the national level.  What makes you now at this point in your life want to get into the pro ranks?

a

CH: The challenge of doing it.  I don’t want to have any regrets when I’m older.  A lot of people say they could have done it but don’t.  To actually get in the ring and do it when you’re still healthy and able has been a goal of mine.  Now’s the right time in my career and age.  Read More

Posted by on January 13, 2011 at 00:06 am

TheBoxingExaminer’s Nova Scotia correspondent Dave Ghiz recently caught up with Robert Cave at Palooka’s Boxing Club in Halifax. Cave is the owner of Caveman Promotions and is promoting a card on January 29th featuring his son, “The Prince of Hali” Tyson Cave as he challenges unbeaten Nestor Bolum for the vacant WBC Intercontinental Super Bantamweight title.

a

The Boxing Examiner:  I’m here with Robert Cave from Caveman Promotions, Robert how are you?

 a

Robert Cave:  I’m doing great thanks.

 a

TBE:  So you guys have a big show coming up on the 29th of January and Tyson’s fighting for a WBC Continental title.  Tell us a little bit about this show and the road to this title.

 a

RC:  Our road to the title, well we were in touch with the guy who gave us the C.A.M. titles.  He then got me in touch with the guy from the WBC, Sam Macias.  Sam and I got talking and I said, “look we don’t have to bring the WBC title fight here.”, but he said “Robert you’ll be the first guy to do it and you’ll be doing it.”  So we agreed to have the fight here.   Read More
