FROM MINSKER TO MANDY, TO HOPEFULLY A FLOURISHING FISH AND A SUPER SPENCER!

This past week a select few had a real boxing treat indeed as they were lucky enough to watch five time National Canadian amateur boxing champion, and Olympic gold medal hopeful, Mandy Bujold spar with five time world champion and current W.I.B.A and W.B.A. champion Lisa “Bad News” Brown. Both fighters have the pedigree to know the appropriate way to use these type of workout sessions and both enjoyed the experience so much that arrangements are being made to get together shortly in good old Kitchener for some “open to the public” sparring sessions.

a

At the post fight press conference for the Brown vs Julaton WBA championship at Casino Rama a few months ago I could not help but notice Olympic hopefuls Bujold ,Colin Fish and Mary Spencer in the crowd. They seemed to be really enjoying the experience. Two thoughts came to mind at the time. Firstly, that Mandy would, given her style, speed, and pedigree, give Lisa some great speed work in preparation for certain opponents we are looking at down the road. Secondly, as I watched Mandy, Colin and Mary beaming and enjoying the show was the thought that THEY NEED TO STAY FOCUSED MENTALLY AS DO THERE RESPECTIVE COACHES. Read More

Alcine Stopped in First!

a

Tonight at Rancho Mirage, California in a WBC elimination fight Alfredo Angulo stopped Montreal based Joachim Alcine at 2:59 of the first round.  Both fighters came out aggressively trying to establish their jabs and body attacks.  Mid way through the round Alcine tied up Angulo’s left arm however “El Perro” used his free right hand to pound away at the side of Alcine’s head which hurt him badly.  Angulo followed up the attack forcing hard right hands through Alcine’s defence.  A hurt Alcine was pressured back to the ropes where Angulo landed a hard left hook followed up by two hard right hands that left Alcine defenceless forcing referee Dr. Lou Moret to halt the bout at the 2:59 mark of the opening round.  With the loss Alcine drops to 32-2, 19KO’s.
